A bounty of chickens for Bounhoy

Eight year old Bounhoy lives in a remote village in Laos with his parents and eight siblings. Despite working tirelessly to grow a variety of rice, fruits and vegetables, their efforts fell short to put food on the table due to tiring soil and poor weather. Sadly, their limited funds only allowed for one child to go to school: Bounhoy. Leaving seven other children without an education or a chance at a future.

The solution they needed arrived in a flurry of feathers—10 chickens provided by World Vision. In addition to their three new roosters and seven hens, they also received training and supplies to raise chickens and build a coop. Since then, 65 new chickens were born with more on the way.

Raising chickens has given Bounhoy’s parents a more hopeful outlook for their children’s future. The family now has enough food to eat each day and extra income when they sell surplus eggs and chickens, which they’ll use for school tuition—for all their children.

But they’re not the only ones with a success story in their community. Thanks to our supporters, we’ve given chickens and ducks to over 78,000 individuals in this region, helping to transform their lives and set them on the path to a brighter future.
