Refugees and migrants

With 37.9 million refugees worldwide, levels of displacement are at an all-time high.

When rising conflict and violence turn into a full-blown humanitarian crisis, World Vision Canada is there to support the children, women and men who suddenly find themselves displaced from home.

Our mission, with your support, is to help them as they try to rebuild their lives after losing everything.

This year, persecution, conflict and human rights violations displaced 122.6 million people from their homes.

Among them are 37.9 million refugees, including 19.1 million children.

Who is a refugee?

Refugees and migrants

When armed conflict broke out in Sudan’s capital city of Khartoum in April 2023, over 8.2 million people, including 4 million children, fled to neighbouring countries like South Sudan to escape the widespread violence. Over a year since the conflict started, it’s now known as one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises and world’s largest displacement crisis.

World Vision teamed up with Global Affairs Canada and the Humanitarian Coalition to provide emergency relief for over 57,000 refugees who have settled in South Sudan’s Renk transit centre.

Together, with your support, we increased access to clean water, health and nutrition services to help ease the burden of overcrowding and growing malnutrition concerns in the encampment.
